Jersey City was settled by Michael Paulsen in 1633 and incorporated in 1838. Jersey City lies on a pininsula between the Hudson and Hackensack rivers, and is situated across from New York City. Jersey City is the county seat of Hudson County. The city is an ethnically mixed community of 250,000 ressidents that live in a 14.80 square mile area. This number swells by at least 300,000 during he daytime due to the economic renaissance currently being expereinced in Jersey City's business district. Nearly 1 mllion people pass through Jersey City on a daily basis. Demographers predict that Jersey City will be the state's most populous city within the next few years.
